September 18, 2023 – Ganesh Chaturthi, celebrated with fervour across India, witnessed a unique and extravagant display of devotion as devotees in J.P. Nagar, Bengaluru, installed an intricately adorned idol of Lord Ganesha amidst a sea of currency notes and coins worth millions of rupees.
For many years, the devotees of Vinayaka in the quaint town of Puttenahalli near J.P. Nagar had been celebrating the festival with an extraordinary twist. However, this year, the J.P. Nagar Satya Ganapathi Shirdi Sai Trust took the concept of decoration to unprecedented heights.

Yes, the Ganesh festival saw an astonishing display of devotion with a staggering 52.5 lakh rupees in currency notes and countless millions in coins adorning Lord Ganesha. The entire temple premises were transformed into a dazzling spectacle using 5, 10, and 20-rupee coins along with 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500-rupee notes, crafted into garlands reminiscent of blossoming flowers.
The meticulous work of adorning the temple with currency notes and coins, totaling approximately 2.5 crore rupees in value, was carried out by a dedicated team of 150 individuals over the course of a month. To ensure the safety of this massive display, 25 security personnel and a comprehensive CCTV system were deployed within the temple premises.
In addition to the currency decorations, the temple walls were adorned with currency notes bearing images of Lord Ganesha, the map of India, the map of Karnataka, and pictures of Chandrayaan-3, Jai Karnataka, Jai Jawan Jai Kisan, and Mera Bharat Mahan, captivating the awe-struck devotees.
The unique decoration has left the devotees in sheer delight, as they have never witnessed such an extravagant display of devotion before. The substantial financial contributions for this grandeur have been provided by devotees, temple trustees, and prominent personalities. Plans are underway to preserve this unique decoration for as long as possible, according to the temple management committee.
Meanwhile, in another part of Bengaluru, the Shri Satya Ganapathi Shirdi Sai Trust, with meticulous attention to detail, has adorned Lord Ganesha’s idol with a grandeur never seen before, celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi with a lavish display of lakhs of rupees worth of currency notes and coins.
Every year, Ganesh Chaturthi ushers in new and innovative festivities, and this year, the Shri Satya Ganapathi Shirdi Sai Trust in J.P. Nagar has set a new standard. To mark the occasion, they have decorated Lord Ganesha’s idol with an opulent array of currency notes and coins, celebrating the festival with unparalleled grandeur.
On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, the trust had adorned the idol of Shri Satya Sai Baba with coconuts, almonds, dates, and fruits, capturing everyone’s attention. This year, they have gone a step further by adorning Lord Ganesha’s idol with the divine touch of Goddess Lakshmi.
The elaborate process of decorating Lord Ganesha’s idol began a week before the festival, involving an estimated 150 individuals. The idol has been adorned with an astounding array of currency notes totaling lakhs of rupees and coins, showcasing images of Vikram Lander, Chandrayaan-3, Jai Karnataka, Jai Jawan Jai Kisan, and Mera Bharat Mahan.
Mr. Ram Mohan Raj, a trustee of the Shri Satya Ganapathi Shirdi Sai Trust, stated that they have used notes ranging from five to a hundred rupees and coins of five, ten, twenty, and fifty rupees to decorate the idol. The exact value of the currency used is yet to be determined, but devotees are offering daily donations of currency notes, adding to the grandeur.
As the festival continues, the value of the currency decorations is expected to grow further. The trust has arranged for daily prayers and special rituals to honor Lord Ganesha, showcasing the divine connection between wealth and devotion.
